PRICING

We set a base price for coal picked up at our locations in Honesdale and Montrose and then add one dollar to each ton for each mile between our location and the delivery.  This covers the time (labor), fuel, and the equipment cost to do the delivery.  (The fact is it really doesn’t cover the cost of the delivery, we would much prefer customers pick up their coal but it is not necessarily practical for a lot of people.)

My minimum delivery is 2 tons within 20 miles. I set a 3 ton minimum for distances of more than 20 miles.  I realize many people are only set up to take two tons at a time and I will accommodate as best I can.

I sell only high quality Blaschak and Reading coal.  I consider the two producers to be pretty similar in quality.  I try to track which coal goes where and I can usually tell you what you are getting.  Reading differs from Blaschak in sizing on chestnut coal and tends to have more pieces of wood in their chestnut and pea sizes.  The wood is not a big issue except for the appearance.

I normally stock rice coal that is oil treated in my Honesdale yard only and typically only until Thanksgiving.  The oil treatment costs $8 per ton.  I stock the oil treated product for customers concerned about dust.  To get the best benefit from the oil treatment, the coal should be kept out of the weather.  Wetting it down from time to time in your bin is OK but it is not beneficial to allow the oil to get washed off by excessive rainfall.  We keep our oiled rice under cover here for that reason.
